Fridge at 4 °C (40 °F) or colder, freezer at −18 °C (0 °F). Freezer times are for best quality: food kept frozen stays safe, but slowly loses taste and texture. These times are USDA guidance, not a guarantee. When in doubt, throw it out.

How to tell if coffee creamer has gone bad

  • A sour smell, or lumps and curdling when you pour it.
  • Creamer that curdles in hot coffee when it didn't before.
  • For powder: hard clumps, a rancid smell or a yellowish color.

How to store coffee creamer

  • Keep liquid refrigerated creamer cold at all times, on a shelf rather than in the door.
  • Shelf-stable single cups and bottles can stay in the pantry until opened.
  • Keep powdered creamer tightly closed and dry.

Can you freeze coffee creamer?

Liquid creamer can be frozen, ideally in ice cube trays, but it may separate when thawed; shake it well. Powdered creamer doesn't need freezing.

Questions

How long does creamer last once opened?

Follow the label on refrigerated liquid creamer, within its 3 weeks from purchase. Powdered creamer keeps 2 to 3 months once opened.

Can creamer sit out?

Refrigerated creamer shouldn't stay out for more than 2 hours. Shelf-stable single cups are fine at room temperature.

Why does creamer curdle in coffee?

Often because it's starting to go sour, but very hot or acidic coffee can also curdle fresh creamer.
